Birthday Girl

So, my little Chloe turned three last week, February 10. I know, I am late with posting anything in relation to her special day, but it is in part because I feel bad that the day really wasn't all that special.

Over her birthday we were in St George - Joe had some training for his job and I thought it would be fun for the kids and I to head for warmer weather with him, and that Chloe would think it would be fun to be somewhere "special" for her birthday. Well, the weather was NOT warm, and the day was not special. Poor little Chloe was so miserable, all she wanted to do was play with her friends who were all 5 hours away. All she wanted was to have me make a castle cake, which without an oven in the hotel room was not possible. All she wanted as a present was a set of My Little Pony horses that she had shown me fifty times. I could not find them in any stores and had to order it online but it did not arrive before we left. So we spent her birthday not at home, not with friends, not with a real birthday cake, and not with the one present she wanted. Joe and I were heartbroken at the looks that she could not hide that told us this was not the day she had envisioned.

We have spent the last week TRYING to make up for it. I don't think you can ever totally replace the excitement of celebrating the one day of the year that is all yours, but we did try...
On Friday when we got home, THE present waiting for her! She was so excited to hear that this package was for her! Noah was almost as excited about the present and the look on her face when she saw she had a gotten My Little Ponies was way cute! That night we read her some of her favorite books that she had forgotten to bring on our trip with us.
The next day was Valentine's Day and I coupled that with making her whatever she wanted for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which was tradition in my family on our birthdays and I love it! The next day we did the birthday cake. Okay, so I have never make a birthday cake before, I am more of a cupcake kind of girl, so for a first attempt it wasn't TOO bad - it did look more like a tiara than a princess castle, but she loved it, so I guess that's all that matters, right? She got yet another present that day, this one from her "ward grandpa and grandma" who had come to have cake and ice cream with us.
Although we didn't do a party for her (I am waiting until she is five to take on that challenge) I did get some princess party favors and we got to be princesses! That's right, I said we - I am a princess to after all!!!The next day my parents took us out to dinner for her birthday, and with that I think we ended our longest birthday celebration ever! All of it is worth it if it makes her happy though. There are so many times when I feel like I don't do enough or spend enough time with her and if this in any way helps make up for my insufficiencies as a mother, than I would celebrate her birthday every day. I love this little face and I love this little girl! Happy Birthday Chloe!
